Though NASA moved ahead with its chosen mode, Lunar Orbital Rendezvous, it hired contractors to study Wiesner's favorite, Direct Ascent. JFK supported NASA's choice; if, however, he had sided with his Science Adviser, an Apollo spacecraft derived from the two-man Gemini Earth-orbital spacecraft might have landed on the moon.
