Big Brother is the American version of the
Big Brother reality television show based on the
Dutch television series of the
same name originally created by
John de Mol in 1997.
The show follows a group of House Guests living together twenty-four hours a day in the "Big Brother" house, isolated from the outside world but under constant surveillance with no privacy for three months. In thirteen seasons
of the show, 151 different people have entered the Big Brother house so far. Big Brother US is currently the third longest running version of the Big Brother format, running slightly longer than the British format which premiered a few weeks after the launch of the American version, and only a few months younger than the
German version and the
Spanish version of the show, which premiered in February 2000. Big Brother US however has aired in every year since its 2000 debut, the second-longest running format to do so. It has currently been renewed for a 14th season in which it will mark its 13th year on air.
