A doughnut or donut is a type of fried dough food popular in many countries and prepared in various forms as a sweet snack that can be homemade or purchased in bakeries, supermarkets, food stalls, and franchised specialty outlets. They are usually sweet, deep-fried from a flour dough, and shaped in rings or flattened spheres that sometimes contain fillings. Other types of dough such as potato can also be used as well as other batters, and various toppings and flavorings are used for different types.

    This is congee I make when I am hungry, have time and patience to stay at the stove and stir. Enjoy~In a big pot, add the water and stock.Add the rice and let it simmer with lid on for a while. Bring to a boil.Remove lid, stir, add the meats and put cover again. Bring to a slow simmer for 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, until it's creamy consistency. Come back and forth to check, stir, and make sure it's not over-thickened. Add stock or water to keep right consistency. Add sesame seed oil and msg to taste.Remove from heat afterwards, and add the cha siu pork, ginger and green onions as garnish. Serve with chinese fried donuts and soy sauce.
  • Mini Angel Baked Donuts
    Preheat oven to 175°C. Lightly grease a donut cups, set aside.Beat egg whites with the salt and the cream of tartar until the soft peaks form. Add the sugar, a tablespoon at a time. Don't stop to beat. Continue to beat until stiff. Sift the flour with the corn starch and the vanilla extract upon the egg whites mixture. Gently combine the ingredients mixing with a wooden spoon. Fill the donut cups. Sprinkle with chocolate chips. Bake about 10 - 15 minutes. Cool completely before serving.

    Soak raisins with the orange juice about 10 minutes.Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm milk.In a large mixing bowl combine the flour and the salt. Add the yeast with the milk. Add the egg and mix with a wooden spoon. Batter should be verry sticky. Dry the raisins and add them to the batter with 1 tbsp orange flavored liqueur. Mix well. Cover and let rest about 30 minutes.Heat the oil in a large saucepan on high medium heat. Grease well your hands with oil. Take a small piece from the dough with the size of a little apricot. Roll it in a ball and with your finger make a hole in the center. Fry no more than 3 donuts at a time on the both sides. Place on the serving dish covered with a cooking paper and sprinkle with confectioners sugar. Serve warm.
