Nano Vacuum Tubes Could Give A Second Life To The Guitarist's Best Friend
engadget.com 4 days, 12 hours agoPretty much the only place you see vacuum tubes any more is inside a quality audio amp. But, once upon a time, they were the primary ingredient in any piece of electronic equipment, including computers. The glass tubes have since been replaced with the smaller, less fragile and cheaper to manufacture silicon transistor . There are, however, disadvantages, to transistors. For one, electrons tend to move more slowly though the semiconductors, and two, they're highly susceptible to radiation. The second of tho

Vacuum Tubes Could Be The Future Of Computing
dvice.com 6 days, 12 hours agoBack in the day, electronics were made with vacuum tubes , which are like little light bulbs that function as amplifiers or switches. In the present, electronics use transistors instead, which do the same thing but can be made tiny and for cheap. NASA researchers have now figured out how to make vacuum tubes on the nanoscale, which could mean faster, more reliable computers.
