Whole Grain

Additional Info

Wholegrains are cereal grains that contain bran and germ as well as the endosperm, in contrast to refined grains, which retain only the endosperm. Wholegrains can generally be sprouted while processed grains generally will not sprout. Wholemeal products are made from wholegrain flour.

  • Wholemeal Gems with Nuts and Raisins
Sunday, 10.30 am... I'm hungry.. but omg... just some normal cornflakes for such a sunny day - no chance! Looking...what do we have? Some wholemeal...butter...eggs, yeast, sugar.... nuts... wow.. that's perfect... enough to make some delicious gems!! 1. Add flour in a bowl. Make a scrape. 2. Dissolve the yeast with some milk and give it to the scrape. Cover up and set aside for 20 minutes. 3. Chop the nuts. 4. Take the flour-yeast mix after 20 minutes and knead it with the milk, butter, sugar, egg, nuts and raisins. Form some gems. Put on a buttered baking-tin, cover up and set aside for 30 minutes. 5. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. (200°C). 6. Awesome with selfmade confiture, cheese, butter or with strawberrybutter (look at my pancake with crushed apple-recipe). 7. Enjoy! :-)
  • Whole Grain Chewy Blondies
Once again we try to "healthify" these blondies by using the 50/50 smart balance butter, egg beaters and whole wheat flour.1. Mix melty butter and sugar2. Mix in egg3. Add vanilla4. add flour* and salt5. Mix in chips6. Pour into greased 8x8 baking pan7. Cook at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until knife in middle comes out clean.*Note: We lowballed the flour to get super-chewy blondies, but you could add 2 tbsp to get a bit more of a cakey flavor, if desired. If you want to use regular white flour, we suggest using 3/4 cup to 1 cup.
